Relocating to Chandler Arizona
"I have lived in chandler for almost 14 years and I love it! Chandler is such a caring community and truly does for the people. The lifestyle, environment, and citizens in Chandler really build onto the strong city in our community. Not only are schools A+ and #1 for Football (Go Wolves 4-Peat), but so much support and love from the community truly make it happen. I honestly am going to live in Arizona my whole life and I wouldn't want to live in any other city than Chandler. Uptown and Downtown Chandler have some of the best hot spots like restaurants, bars, and awesome hangout places. Chandler is such a pretty city that I love living in!" - Niche.com
Chandler History
Located in Maricopa County, Chandler is bordered by the Northwest by Tempe, the north by Mesa, the west by Phoenix, the east by Gilbert, and the South by the Giulia River Indian community. Dating back to 1891 when Dr. Alexander John Chandler, the first veterinarian surgeon in Arizona Territory, settled on a ranch just south of Mesa. He acquired 18,000 acres of land and began drawing up plans for a town, which was then known as Chandler Ranch. The original town was bordered by Galveston Street on the north, Frye Road on the south, Hartford Street on the west, and Hamilton Street on the east. By 1913, a town center was established featuring hotels and the first grass golf course in the state. The Chandler high school was established in 1914 and Chandler was officially incorporated in 1920. The town founder was chosen as the president of the first town Council and the first town's mayor.
Even during the Great Depression, most of Chandler's economy was successfully sustained and in 1941 with the founding of the Williams Air Force Base, there was a small surgeon population. By 1980, the population had grown to about 30,000 residents and had paced the Phoenix metro area's rate of growth with vast suburban residential neighborhoods taking over former agricultural plots. In the early 1990s, the City of Chandler experience exponential growth ranking among the fastest-growing municipalities in the country. With over 100,000 homes in Chandler alone and nearly 250,000 residents, Chandler is a booming city. The heart of Chandler remains its beautiful little historical downtown area and includes the award-winning Chandler City Hall and the Chandler Center for the Arts. In 2010, Chandler was named as an All-American City by the National Civic League and was the only Arizona winner for the 61st annual awards.
Chandler Schools
The Chandler Unified School District is one of the top employers in Chandler with nearly 5000 employees. Most of Chandler is served by their own school district with a small portion served by the Kyrene Elementary School District and the Tempe Union High School District. The area east of Loop 101 and north of Warner Road is served by Mesa Public Schools and the San Vicente neighborhood in Chandler is served by Gilbert Public Schools.
The top-rated schools and Chandler continue to be BASIS Chandler elementary school, the Arizona College Prep, and the Great Hearts Academy just to name a few. But there are 94 public schools throughout Chandler and many of them hit top marks for academics and education. Bright Beginnings Elementary School is one of the most proficient and top-rated schools in Chandler.
"The teachers at BBS are amazing and the principal is very kind, supportive and involved. I started one of my kids at BBS last year and loved it so much I enrolled my other two school aged kids. The music, arts, PE and Spanish teachers are incredible. I really appreciate the low student teacher ratios as well. Its an amazing little school! I’m thankful to have found such a great school for my kids." -Niche.com
