Relocating to Fountain Hills Arizona
Fountain Hills is one of the easternmost areas of Maricopa County and part of the Phoenix Scottsdale Metro district. It's bordered by the Salt River Pima Indian community and south of the McDowell Mountain Regional Park, North Scottsdale, and central Scottsdale. Home to about 25,000 residents, this suburb of Phoenix has been touted as one of the best places to live in Arizona. Between 1990 and 2000, it was the eighth fastest-growing place among cities and towns in the state. But it has a rich history being first home to the Yavapai Indians, their petroglyphs found near the Dixie Mine in the northwest corner along the mountain range.
In the early 20th century, Fountain Hills and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park were all part of the Pemberton Ranch but split off into their own community in the 1970s. It was considered a master-planned community by McCulloch properties and before that was a cattle ranch, one of the largest land cattle holdings in Arizona.
But, the fountain is not the only thing the city is known for. Sitting along the border of Scottsdale, Fountain Hills features a wide collection of sculptures, art, botanical gardens, restaurants, shops, and boasts three annual fairs including the Fountain Hills Great Fair featuring art and a carnival, the Thunderbird Artists Fountain Hills Fine Art & Wine Affair, and our ever-popular St. Patrick's Day celebration. Remember that fountain we were talking about? It gets dyed green each year during St. Patrick's Day.
Why choose a home in Fountain Hills?
This 18 square-mile town enjoys a warm, sunny desert climate year-round and is home to a variety of recreational and cultural attractions. Being a little bit farther away from downtown Scottsdale and Phoenix, you'll get a slower and quieter pace of life with a lot more community involvement and access to recreation and outdoor events. The beautiful Fountain Hills Botanical Garden is a masterpiece in this small little Arizona town. This 8-acre public garden is owned by the city and showcases nearly 30 varieties of unique plants native to the desert region.
The McDowell Mountain Regional Park is also close by featuring more than 21,000 acres with elevations reaching 3000 feet above sea level. There are more than 50 miles of multi-use trails available for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. And this is the only trail in Fountain Hills, the Lake Overlook Trail spans 1.5 miles to the heart of Fountain Hills giving you a 360° view of the areas surrounding visitors. The Dixie Mine Trail explores the former Dixie Mine originally established in 1877 for mining quartz. This 5.5-mile round-trip trail stems off the Sonoran Trail gaining nearly 600 feet in elevation. You'll find petroglyphs from the Archaic, Hokoham, and historical periods along with stone carvings dating back to the early 1900s.
Fountain Hills also has a variety of galleries, museums, wineries, and breweries as well as fantastic chocolate shops, boutiques, and award-winning restaurants. But it's not just our entertainment that keeps us all satisfied. We have a great job market, excellent schools, and easy commuting to and from Scottsdale and surrounding communities.
Fountain Hills Schools
Fountain Hills has its own Fountain Hills Unified School District and includes the McDowell Mountain elementary school, the Fountain Hills middle school, and the Fountain Hills high school. All three receive top marks from great schools.org and Niche.com.
"As a student, I have had the best time at Fountain Hills so far. The sports are great and there are many opportunities for me to get involved in clubs and the community. Fountain Hills High School is a smaller school so everyone knows, and gets along with each other."
"Fountain Hills High School really does have the best interests in its students at heart. The administration want all of the students in that school to succeed no matter what, and truly put in the work to make sure that everyone can graduate and go to college. They also do their absolute best to make sure that it is a safe and sanitary learning environment, and have incredible teaching staff."
